Bunk — Terms of Service
Effective date: October 15, 2026
Last updated: October 15, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Omar Abouelsaoud, an individual based in Texas, United States ("we", "us", "our"). We provide the Bunk mobile app and its related services ("Bunk" or the "service").
Before creating or joining a household, you must confirm that you are 18 or older and accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy (https://trybunk.com/policy), which describes our handling of personal information. You may create a sign-in account before that confirmation. By accepting these Terms and using the service, you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, do not use Bunk.
1. What Bunk is, and what it isn't
Bunk helps people who share a home keep shared records together:
- expenses and balances;
- payments between housemates;
- recurring bills;
- proposals and votes;
- shopping lists;
- chores and house events;
- an activity history, and notifications about all of it.
Bunk is a record-keeping tool. It is not:
- a bank, payment service, money transmitter or escrow service. Bunk never holds or moves money;
- a way to verify payments. It can't see whether a payment made in Venmo, Cash App or anywhere else went through;
- a lease, a contract between housemates, or a debt-collection service;
- financial, tax, legal or accounting advice. The "Ways to save" tips and category suggestions are general, automatic suggestions drawn from your household's own records.
2. Who can use Bunk
To use Bunk you must:
- be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract;
- live in the United States, where Bunk is offered;
- not be barred from using Bunk by law, and not have been removed from Bunk by us before.
Where the law requires it, the app asks the App Store or Google Play for your age range when you confirm you're 18 or older, and won't let you continue if it reports that you're under 18. We may rely on that information.
Each account is for one person. Don't share your account or let anyone else use it.
3. Your account
You can create an account with an email address and password, with a one-time code sent to your email, or with Google or Apple. Sign-in is provided for us by Clerk.
Give accurate account information and keep your sign-in details secure. You're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, tell us at support@trybunk.com.
Your name and profile photo are shown to the members of your households.
4. Households
Joining. You can create a household or join one with an invite code. A code is 6 characters long and works for 7 days. Until it expires or a member replaces it, anyone who has the code can join. Share it only with people you want in your household; any member can replace it in the app.
Members are equals. Every member of a household can:
- add, edit and delete its shared records, including expenses someone else entered;
- rename the household and set the lease end date;
- invite people, and start or answer a vote to remove a member.
Every change appears in the household's activity feed.
Leaving and removal.
- You can leave a household once you're settled up with every member.
- A member can be removed only if every other member votes yes, and only once that member is settled up.
- When the last member leaves, the household is archived.
Disagreements between housemates are yours to resolve. Bunk keeps records. We aren't a party to any arrangement between household members, and we don't decide who owes what or settle disputes.
5. Money, balances and settling up
Balances come from what members enter. Bunk calculates balances only from the amounts, payers, splits and payments members record. We don't check any of it, and members can edit it. Splits are worked out in whole cents, so shares can differ by a cent.
Recurring bills. When a member sets up a recurring bill, Bunk adds it to the household as an expense on each due date, split by its rule, until it ends or a member stops it. It counts toward balances straight away. Check that your household's bills are right.
Proposals. Voting yes on a proposal means you're willing to share its cost. If the person who proposed it records the purchase, the cost is split among the members who voted yes. Bunk doesn't make anyone pay.
Paying someone. If you tap Venmo or Cash App, Bunk opens their app or website with the details filled in, and you finish the payment there under their terms.
- Check the recipient and the amount before you pay.
- Make sure the Venmo username and Cash App $cashtag you add to Bunk are your own.
- We do not control payments made outside Bunk, including payments sent to the wrong person or to an incorrect handle. Any liability is subject to applicable law and the limitations in §13.
Recording payments.
- Either person can record a payment between them.
- A payment recorded by the person who paid counts toward balances straight away, and stays pending until the person who was paid confirms it or says it didn't arrive.
- A payment recorded by the person who was paid is confirmed straight away.
- Either person can undo a payment later, and the activity feed shows it.
6. Subscriptions
When a subscription is needed
A new household can use Bunk free for 3 days after it's created. After that, it needs a running subscription to keep adding and changing things. A free trial counts as a running subscription.
Without one, the household becomes read-only:
- Still works: members can see everything; record, confirm and undo payments; rename the household, invite people, leave, and vote on removals; and start or manage a subscription. Each person can still change their own profile and settings, or delete their account.
- Doesn't work: adding or changing anything else.
Plans and free trials
One subscription covers everyone in the household it was bought for, and any member can buy it. Plans are monthly or yearly. The price, in US dollars plus any applicable tax, is shown in the app before you buy.
If the App Store or Google Play says you're eligible, your subscription starts with a free trial. Before you buy, the app shows how long the trial lasts and the price after it. A trial needs a payment method. When the trial ends, you'll be charged automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Apple and Google decide who's eligible for a trial.
Billing, renewal and cancellation
- Billing. Subscriptions are bought through, and billed by, Apple's App Store or Google Play, and their terms apply too. We never receive your payment details.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly billing period at the applicable price, subject to any notice or consent requirements for price changes, until you cancel.
- Cancelling. Cancel in your App Store or Google Play account settings, at least 24 hours before the current period ends. In Bunk, More → Subscription → Manage takes you there. Cancelling stops future renewals, and the household stays covered until the end of the period already paid for.
- Leaving a household or deleting your account doesn't cancel your subscription. While it renews, it keeps covering the household it was bought for, even after you leave. You can move it to another household you belong to from that household's subscription screen, or cancel it in the store.
- Payment problems. If the store cannot charge you, the household may stay covered during any applicable billing grace period and then become read-only if there is no active subscription or other free access.
- Price changes. Apple or Google will tell you about any price change as their rules require, and may ask you to agree to it.
- Refunds. Apple and Google handle refunds for purchases made through them, under their own policies. Ask them for a refund; we can't issue refunds for store purchases ourselves. A refunded subscription stops covering the household.
- Free access. We may give a household free access, for example as a promotion or during a beta. We may end such free access with advance notice where reasonably practicable.
Beta and other promotional access
We may make pre-release versions available through TestFlight or other testing channels, or provide temporary free access during a beta or promotion. Any such access applies only when it is actually enabled and shown in the service. Pre-release features can change or contain defects. We cannot guarantee that test data will always be available or migrate unchanged into a later release. We will give notice before ending household promotional access where reasonably practicable.
7. Your content
"Your content" is everything you add to Bunk, including:
- expenses, payments and notes;
- proposals and votes, lists, chores and events;
- photos;
- your name, profile photo and payment handles.
You retain your ownership rights in your content. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, store, copy, process, transmit and display it as necessary to provide, operate, secure and maintain Bunk, including displaying it to household members and sending related notifications. This license does not let us sell your content for advertising or use it to train AI models.
Content in a household is shared. Other members can view and change shared records within Bunk. When you leave a household, its existing records generally remain. When you delete your account, your account display name is replaced with "Deleted User" in shared record attribution, but shared records and receipt photos remain as described in the Privacy Policy. Your license continues for retained content only while and to the extent necessary for our provision of Bunk, lawful retention, and resolution of valid requests.
You're responsible for what you add.
- Only upload what you have the right to share.
- Only include other people's information when your household needs it.
- Remember that photos appear to your household, and anyone with a stored image's exact web address can open it. Receipts can show details such as a card's last digits; crop out anything you do not want to share.
Removal. We do not routinely review content before it appears. We may restrict access to or remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law, or to comply with valid privacy or legal requests. The Privacy Policy describes when photos are deleted.
Links in proposals. When you add a link to a proposal, our server fetches the page to show a preview. Don't link to anything unlawful or harmful.
8. Acceptable use
Don't use Bunk to:
- break the law, or help anyone else break it;
- harass, threaten or defraud anyone, or record expenses or payments you know are false;
- upload anything unlawful, sexually explicit or hateful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights;
- get into a household, account or data that isn't yours, including by guessing invite codes;
- interfere with Bunk, for example by overloading it, getting around its rate limits, using bots or scripts, uploading malicious files, or probing its security;
- copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or build a competing service from Bunk, except as the law allows;
- avoid the subscription or the read-only limit, for example by repeatedly creating households to restart the free period.
Bunk limits how often some actions can be repeated. If you hit a limit, wait a few minutes and try again. Uploads must be photos (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF or GIF) of 20 MB or less.
9. Bunk's app and brand
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Bunk app on devices you own or control, for your own household, under these Terms and the rules of the store you got it from. The app may download updates automatically when it starts. Some features may need the latest version.
Bunk's name, logo, design and software belong to us or our licensors. These Terms give you no rights to them beyond this license. Open-source parts of the app are covered by their own licenses.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.
10. Services from other companies
Bunk depends on services run by other companies:
- Clerk, for sign-in;
- Google and Apple sign-in;
- the App Store and Google Play;
- RevenueCat, which manages subscriptions for us;
- Venmo and Cash App;
- Expo, Apple and Google, which deliver notifications;
- the websites you link to in proposals.
Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We don't control them and aren't responsible for them or whether they're available.
11. If you got Bunk from Apple's App Store
These extra terms apply when you download Bunk from Apple's App Store:
- The agreement is ours, not Apple's. These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Bunk and its content.
- License scope. Your license to use Bunk is limited to Apple-branded products you own or control, as the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions allow.
- Support. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Bunk.
- Warranty. If Bunk fails to meet any warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Bunk. Any other claims, losses or costs from a failure to meet a warranty are our responsibility, to the extent these Terms don't disclaim them.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims about Bunk or your use of it, including product-liability claims, claims that Bunk fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer-protection, privacy or similar laws.
- Intellectual-property claims. If someone claims that Bunk or your use of it infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
- Legal compliance. You confirm that you're not in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated by the US government as "terrorist supporting", and that you're not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Contact. Questions, complaints or claims about Bunk go to us, at the contact details in §19.
- Other agreements. You must follow the terms of any third-party agreement that applies when you use Bunk, such as your mobile data plan.
- Apple's right to enforce. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, Apple may enforce them against you.
12. Disclaimers
Bunk is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. In particular, we don't promise that:
- Bunk will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that your data will never be lost. Keep your own records of anything important;
- balances, splits, recurring bills, category suggestions, saving tips or link previews will be accurate or complete;
- notifications will arrive, or arrive on time.
Some states don't allow implied warranties to be disclaimed, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- No indirect damages. We aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from or related to Bunk or these Terms.
- Things outside Bunk. We aren't liable for:
- money owed between household members;
- payments you make, or don't make, outside Bunk;
- disagreements between household members;
- what third-party services do.
- Cap. Our total liability for claims relating to Bunk or these Terms will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for Bunk in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or $50.
These limits apply regardless of legal theory, even if we were informed a loss was possible. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including rights provided by applicable consumer-protection law. Some states do not permit certain exclusions or liability limits.
14. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, you'll defend, indemnify and hold us harmless against third-party claims, losses and costs, including reasonable lawyers' fees, that arise from:
- your content;
- your use of Bunk in breach of these Terms;
- your breaking the law or someone else's rights.
Third parties include other members of your household.
15. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Bunk at any time and delete your account in the app (More → Delete account). Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription; cancel it in the App Store or Google Play.
We may suspend or end your access, or remove content, if:
- you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms;
- the law requires it;
- it's needed to protect Bunk, its users or anyone else.
Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why.
If your account ends, shared records and uploaded content may remain with your former households, as described in the Privacy Policy and subject to applicable deletion rights.
We may change Bunk or stop offering any part of it. If we permanently shut down Bunk, we will give at least 30 days' advance notice where reasonably practicable and take steps to end future subscription renewals through the applicable stores. Consumer rights and any refunds required by law are not affected.
These sections keep applying after your account ends: 7 (for content that stays with a household), 9 (feedback), 12, 13, 14, 17 and 18.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we'll tell you before it takes effect, for example in the app or by email, and update the date at the top. When it takes effect, the app asks you to agree to the new Terms before you can keep using it. You can delete your account from that screen instead.
If you keep using Bunk after a change takes effect, you accept the new Terms. If you don't accept them, stop using Bunk, delete your account, and cancel any subscription.
17. Governing law and disputes
Talk to us first. Before bringing a claim, email support@trybunk.com and describe the problem. We'll both try in good faith to resolve it informally for 30 days.
Governing law. These Terms are governed by Texas law and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent mandatory consumer-protection law requires otherwise.
Where claims are brought. To the extent permitted by law, claims that cannot be resolved informally must be brought in the state courts located in Fort Bend County, Texas, or the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division, and both parties consent to those courts' jurisdiction. Either party may bring an eligible individual claim in small-claims court. These venue terms do not deprive a consumer of any forum or remedy that applicable law makes non-waivable.
18. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with any applicable store terms and the Privacy Policy's disclosures about data handling, govern your use of Bunk. Purchase transactions also remain subject to the store's applicable terms.
- Transfer. You can't transfer these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer them, for example to a company we form to run Bunk, or as part of a merger or sale. If we do, we'll tell you.
- Notices. You agree that we may give you notices electronically, in the app or by email to the address on your account.
- Severability. If any part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a part of these Terms doesn't mean we've given it up.
- Events beyond our control. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- Third parties. Nobody other than you, us and, as §11 says, Apple has rights under these Terms.
